high profile events and the risks:- with Creamfields starting this weekend and the finding of a bus filled with gas canisters as an improvised explosive device in the Netherlands near a pop concert, BEAT wants to give you some food for thought if your attending any high capacity venue.
First of all ENJOY the event, but be aware of your surroundings. Know where help is located- fire exits, extinguisher, security and police points and also medical facilities including defibrillators.
If possible have some basic equipment with you- a small torch, first aid kit and a bottle of water. All can be kept easily on your person.
Again have situational awareness- if something looks wrong, report it. If there is a bag for instance abandoned nine times out of ten its either been some one who has simply forgotten, or its no longer required because its broken. unfortunately that tenth time it could be an explosive device. It only takes a few minutes to let someone know and it could easily save lives.
always let loved ones know where you are going to be, if you change plans also inform them. this is simply to ensure if an incident happens your loved ones can let you know its kicked off and then have a location where you are. Imagine seeing on t.v or social media that an incident has happened and thinking that your loved one could be involved. Imagine the panic and fear, also it helps the emergency services by having an idea who was at the venue, and, having this confirmed. This was highlighted in the Grenfel tower fire where fire fighters where tasked to specific flats where people where confirmed to be. It gave people trapped a better chance of survival and resources where sent where they where required.
always follow the event staffs instructions. Above all ENJOY your event, look after each other and enjoy life.
