in the medical profession we have what we call mechanism of injury. This can give us an idea of the types of injury people may have, from the type of incident they are involved in. In the recent vehicular attacks, the majority of injuries are blunt force trauma and result in major internal bleeding and fractures of bones.

So what can we do as bystanders if we see people run over by a car/van/truck? Firstly we have to always think SAFETY, if the incident is on a road we need to stop traffic from hitting us and the casualties again so we need to stop the traffic, and we need to ensure the emergency services are called and can get to the scene.
