now we have ensured that its Safe for us to help as far as possible and the emergency services are alerted we can start to help people. as we have said our casualties have been run over so we will be looking at internal injuries and broken bones, predominantly, so what can we do by the road side? We can do a lot. all broken bones need to be stabilised to ease pain and reduce blood loss. the main issues here are broken pelvis and femurs, we simply need to splint them, if possible good leg to bad or utilise a stick, such as a broom handle and belts/scarf/triangular bandage as in the picture below, we also need to protect the pelvis and again we can improvise a pelvic binder utilising triangular bandage/blanket/scarf/luggage strap etc, we need to then look after the casualty until help arrives.
